About Copamedia

Copamedia is a multimedia design agency based in Y Felinheli, North Wales. Actually, it's just me, Phil Stead. Why pretend otherwise? I've been a multimedia professional for 14 years since I designed and built the first ever Welsh International football website in 1996. I was employed by the BBC as an Internet Consultant soon after and designed the first BBC Wales Sports website. Cardiff City FC came calling in 2000 and I became Information Manager at Ninian Park, being responsible for all public contact, including publications, press and most of all web development.

By 2001 I was working again as a consultant for the BBC. This time, on the technical side as I traversed the UK setting up live webcasting facilities at most of the Football League grounds. At the same time I began writing sports features for BBC Wales Sport Online. I co-founded CC4 in 2001 and began work on the development of streaming media, particularly SMIL programming, a quaint and now virtually defunct way of programming rich media videos for delivery across the web. Real Networks called me "one of Europe's foremost SMIL exponents", which was nice of them.

Our clients wanted videos for their websites and CDs but they didn't want to pay the high fees charged by traditional television production houses. Neither did I, so I learnt how to film and edit.  I installed a small studio, and  CC4 became a leading multimedia agency in South Wales, with lots of big clients and projects, some of which you can see in my portfolio.

I discovered Second Life a few years ago, and I now own 3 islands where I have developed several major virtual businesses alongside real world projects. I am a bit of an evangelist where 3D worlds are concerned, and I'm pretty sure that's where the future lies for general web use. Since learning Welsh, I have been able to write a weekly sports column for Golwg magazine. I recently began to move into sports photography and I am an accredited FAW photographer. I left CC4 in September 2008 to begin Copamedia. The rest, as they say, is the future.
